The 2023 International Workshop on Wireless Sensing Technologies and Application was successfully held in Macau.
The “2023 International Workshop on Wireless Sensing Technologies and Application” was successfully held at the Regency Art Hotel in Macau from November 23 to 24, 2023. The conference was organized by the University of Macau and the IEEE Antennas and Microwave Society Macau Chapter, with co-organization by Shenzhen University, Nanjing Normal University, Foshan University, Soochow University, University of Macau, and South China University of Technology under the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Joint Laboratory for Millimeter Wave and Terahertz, as well as Huaxia Information Group, Lixin Technology, and Huicai Holdings.
This international conference aimed to explore the forefront developments in wireless sensing technology and to translate research findings into practical applications, providing an important platform for academic exchange and cooperation in the microwave field. The event attracted significant attention from the industry and received strong support from various institutions, including the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund, the Macao Shandong Association, Huicai Holdings, and the Regency Art Hotel in Macau.
The successful hosting of this conference not only promoted the further development of wireless sensing technology but also strengthened cooperation and exchange among universities and research institutions.
This conference invited Professor Tam Kam Weng, Chairman of the IEEE Macau Section, to serve as the conference chair and deliver the welcome address. George Xiao from the National Research Council Canada, Professor Zhang Gang from Nanjing Normal University, Professor Zhang Wenhai from Soochow University, Professor Huang Guanlong from Foshan University, Professor Wang Shiwei from Shenzhen University, Jiang Yi, Dr. Ding Shaorong from the University of Macau, and Dr. Zhao Zhihao from the University of Macau served as co-chairs of the committee.
The two-day conference featured a rich program, including keynote speeches by experts, short courses, conference papers, an industry innovation competition, and an exhibition of achievements. Academician Ferran Martin from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Academician Perry Shum from the Southern University of Science and Technology delivered outstanding keynote reports. Over the course of the conference, more than 20 papers were presented, and the total number of participants exceeded 100.
To encourage the integration of academic research and technological innovation, the conference established a student paper competition segment. Experts selected two papers from the 16 student entries to be shortlisted for the Student Outstanding Paper Award.
The “Industry Innovation Competition” segment during the conference became a highlight of the event, attracting significant attention from the industry. The competition focused on the technical problems and challenges faced by enterprises, allowing participating students to use their relevant professional knowledge to propose targeted solutions. This initiative fostered the convertibility of research achievements and promoted mutually beneficial interaction between academia and industry.
The conference brought together international experts, scholars, and professionals in the field of wireless sensing technology, focusing on the theme of wireless sensing technology and applications. It addressed the technical needs of the industry, the implementation of research achievements, and applications, including activities such as innovative technology product displays and an innovative technology solutions competition. The goal was to promote the vertical integration of research achievements and industrial applications, break down barriers between the industry and academia, and provide attendees with a high-level platform for brainstorming, knowledge exchange, innovation, and collaboration.
The successful hosting of the 2023 International Workshop on Wireless Sensing Technologies and Application facilitated the integration and innovation between the microwave academic community and related industries, marking a new milestone in the development of the microwave industry in China.
